21st-22nd August 2010

Over two days in two venues in Bethnal Green , our annual festival of live music, comedy and arts and crafts will this year have a very special theme… ANIMATION… we’ll be inviting animators, cartoonists and film-makers to come and share their craft with you…

In our workshops you’ll be able to make zoetropes, phenakistoscopes, flipbooks and short animations as well as comic strips and puppets… and on Sunday we’ll be screening the animations along with some of our favourite animated shorts… if you are an animator or cartoonist and want to host a workshop, art stall or just screen your work then then get in touch with us ASAP… thanks

there’ll be music from some our favourite bands and performers, some big names and some of our favourite comedy and burlesque acts too… all bringing alive the art you make with music and laughter…

Tickets will be available soon for each day and both.

howdy y’all… are you quick on the draw? saddle up cowboys, cowgirls, squaws and braves, our 4th Birthday we’ll be rounding up a special posse and celebrating in style with some wild west wonders… with old friends and new… come join us at the Bethnal Green Saloon… this one will be special…

fancy dress is optional but then why wouldn’t you with a theme this good? with all the usual arts and crafts but more so… with a delightful selection of old time boys and girls performing some good ol’ tunes… full line-up to be confirmed but will include our old friends Thee Intolerable Kidd and friends, Emaline Delapaix, Johnny Monitor (aka Iain Dootson) and a few other surprises… as well as a bit of burlesque from the delightful Ms Harlot DeVille and some wild wild life-drawing…

The Bobby McGees and Alessi’s Ark nominated in xFM new music awards

While Gabby Young and Tallulah Rendall are getting all the attention they deserve for their amazing 2009 albums… it’s amazing that two other headline acts from last year’s HungaMunga Festival are nominated in xFM’s new music awards… we’d love you to vote for their albums… and help one of them win…

The Bobby McGees

The Bobby McGees are nominated for ’L'Appropriation Bourgoisie De La Bobby McGees’ (Cherryade). Amazing for a wonderful little band on a little independent label… it would be lovely if they won!!!

… such a sweet girl and an amazing songwriter… but we’ve got a feeling the best is yet to come from Alessi…

Gabby Young and Other Animals

At HungaMunga we’re pretty good at spotting the talent that will go on to make it big… We supported Nizlopi through thick and thin and watched them get to Number One in the UK charts a few years ago… and deservedly dear Paloma Faith is now everywhere you look…

Gabby Young and Other Animals

I’m pretty sure you will have noticed too the phenomenon that is Gabby Young and Other Animals and if not… you will in 2010. We’ve had Gabby and her band play at HungaMunga more than any other band and she is our favourite singer around. All the attention her independently produced and self-financed CD “We’re All In This Together” is getting is 100% justified… ranging from gypsy-infused dances to heart-breaking ballads it is a work of genius and a joy… and if you want to see them live you will never forget it. With astounding showmanship, this is one band that create a party wherever they perform. And Gabby’s vintage style and dedication to making each gig special just add to the whole thing. Being tipped to be one of the big things of 2010 by The Guardian and with mounting public attention she is already on route to become a megastar… so catch her at a venue near you. The Musicarium at Proud

Our next night is the HungaMunga Musicarium at Proud on the 13th of January. If there ever was an act that summed up the ethos of the Musicarium it is this musical maestro. American songwriter, performer, and inventor of musical contraptions, the wonderful Thomas Truax is a phenomenally creative individual who first came to prominence in the Anti-folk movement on New York’s Lower East side in the 1990s. Part Tim Burton, part Tom Waits – Truax is wonder to behold in a live setting. Always accompanied by a fantastic concoction of new invented instruments, Truax has recently created a whole album of songs from the films of David Lynch.

It is with great pleasure that the Musicarium rolls out the red carpet and welcomes you inside for a fascinating journey into the mind of a musical genius… with our favourite antifolkers David Cronenberg’s Wife and the amazing Fire Stations.

HungaMunga presents the astounding Musicarium… hosted by Professor Geppetto H. Blowfinger. Expect the unusual, the experimental, and the downright brilliant. A night of live music and arts and crafts.

Imagine a carnival sideshow but with unique and extraordinary musical acts that will entertain and amaze you, lashings of art materials for making stuff, special guest performers, magic and burlesque…
